At 6’ 4”, 240 pounds Jason could be expected to bark out demands like a Marine drill instructor but the soft-spoken Miller is much more of a thinker than a barker. He reads history books during downtimes on the pro rodeo circuit and is quietly pleased to be at the WNFR for the first time in 2006. “I’ve waited too long at home watching it on television,” he said. “I’m really not nervous and plan to go at it every night – ten, one-headers is the way I look at it.” Miller, a pro for 13 years, had been using a horse trained by fellow steer wrestler Todd Suhn but a leg injury prevented that animal from making the Las Vegas trip. Miller drove eleven-hundred miles Thanksgiving Day to another fellow bulldogger’s (Brad Gleason) place in Washington. There was time for a couple of days of practice on the new horse and then the drive to Vegas. “I’ve ridden her a bunch and she’ll be fine,” he believes. Miller, who hails from outside of Lance Creek, Wyoming (population 10) likes to come home to quiet, open country and few people. He works a cattle ranch with his father and brother.
